Tim, your observations and questions are SPOT ON! All I can add to this post, as a luremaker and painter, is that collectors have to be educated when considering a lure. I've done just a handful of repaints in my 40 years as a luremaker (probably 10), stamp my initials in the bait, and I've thought that if someone wants to sell a $100 lure THAT BAD, and screw up my paint and better-than-automoblile clearcoat finish, then it will never sell as original. Cannot speak for other painters... good post and great thoughts!!!
