Patented in 1902 by George Doering. In 1924 there was another patent granted to G. H. Doering for a simplified version of this hook. This hook was made in at least 5 and maybe 6 versions over it's lifetime. The first 3 versions predate the 1924 patent and can be identified by the extra small coil spring above the bait hook mounting device.
Your hook is what collectors call a version "3". It was probably made in the early 1920's. It's less common then the later versions but not as rare as a version "2" which is fairly tuff or a version "1" which is rarely found.
