Thank you Joe in advance for allowing this space to further promote our history.......
Luhr Jensen – snapshot in history collection……June 2025
I plan to bring ALL of the below to Evansville, but would prefer to have it pre-sold before I get there. Space will be a premium in my room, so I thank you in advance for your patience in going through all of this.
This ‘tote’ of history is waiting for the right Luhr Jensen collector, or any collector who appreciates personalized history and actual samples. A lot of this is one-of-a-kind type stuff.
Please email me for pictures.
From what I was able to piece together, a Mr. Gene Griffith struck up a friendship with Mr. Phil Jensen, which ran a course from 2010 through 2013. They traded a ton of personal emails, post/Christmas cards and actual fishing lures. Phil was eager to tell the Luhr Jensen story to Gene Griffith, aged 92, who died 6-13-2022. Phil Jensen, aged 87, died 11-5-2022. As you read their correspondence, you can tell they became fast friends indeed.
There are 4 – 3 ring binders, each with a huge assortment of information.
Binder #1 includes a history of Luhr Jensen, their acquisitions, NFLCC alliance and a ton of ‘behind the scenes’ commentary. I learned as great deal about not just Luhr Jensen, but other companies as well.
Binder #2 includes photos of the Jensen family, their plants, different steps of the lure making process, flyers, promotional stuff and biz cards.
Binder #3 includes catalogs. Ranging from 1969 through 2003-04, in Trade, Dealer and retail formats. 13 catalogs, plus 2 Steelhead Fishing booklets from 1967. And a stack of A.C Plug flyers
Binder #4 includes and actual Salesman sample board of 35 metal spoons in different colors & sizes. A listing of all their lures from A to Z, with corresponding – advertising Line Art. Plus, photos of lures, store displays, packaging formats, Bassmaster lures and Coloring Books that Phil devised himself. And a 1982 Curtis Creed Manifesto, signed by Phil.
I should point out that Phil Jensen’s actual signature is throughout all of the above.
LURE wise – all NEW in packaging, there are 3 identical color Amazon Rippers, 3 different color Woodchoppers (both designs for Peacock Bass), a green Woodchopper whose blister has come off and a Big Game Wood Frog, that is signed by Phil Jensen, re the company they bought in 1900-91.
PLUS - As part of this collection, there is also a handmade wooden tackle box that is brand new. It appears to be poplar, so it is lightweight, but yet sturdy. It measures 23-1/2” long x 10” wide x 11-1/4” high. The pics will show an immaculate cantilevered trays, lined with cork sheets. A bass and panfish silhouette are burned into each side.
Included are 2 hand carved lures by Gene Griffith (GeneOreno) himself. Measuring 4-1/4” long, these hand carved, side hook lures sport glass eyes. One comes in a labeled box, with a humorous leaflet inside.
ALL of the above will go for one (1) money, as I believe the entire Jensen / Griffith collection should stay together. But I am open to offers.
Thank you,
Randy L. Pavlack – The Coin Guy
