I hear the name alot. I'd like to know more about him, if anyone can shed some light on the subject. My question is, why are DR repaints considered OK when repaints by others are shunned? Repainters are considered to be crooked. The R on the belly means nothing, even if it is pressed into the wood. Why? Because a good painter can fill that in with epoxie and make smooth again and you would never know there was an R there. I see lures all the time that have cracks on the belly but no cracks on the back. The belly looks old, original, it has cracks in the varnish and even the stencil is still there. But the back has few if any cracks. The easiest colors to reproduce are solid colors, rainbow, and frog. I see rainbo backs and cracks on the belly all the time. No cracks on the back. If you mark your lure with a sharpie and then clearcoat, a painter can just paint over it. If you etch a letter in the belly, he can fix with filler such as epoxie and paint over. So why are repaints by certain ones considered to be a real treasure?
